About Me

My work is grounded in two decades of experience in ocean policy and economic development. I’m now moving beyond the policy sphere to engage with start-ups and companies looking to innovate in ocean industries, including through my role as a Mentor in Residence at Northeastern University’s Roux Institute in Portland, Maine.

After stints as an editor in Manhattan publishing houses and a Hollywood television writer, I began my career in this field as a Republican staffer for the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries, and Coast Guard. Then I went on to lead ocean policy initiatives at the left-leaning Center for American Progress and the nonpartisan Aspen Institute. My work across the political spectrum underlines my core belief that collaboration and compromise are integral to achieving lasting policy solutions.

A native Cape Codder, I now live in Portland, Maine with my spouse, a frisbee chasing chocolate lab, and a college-going daughter who comes and goes at sometimes unpredictable intervals. We spend as much time as possible on, in and around the water.
